The ruling Democratic Party on Wednesday hailed the arrest of People Power Party lawmaker Kweon Seong-dong on political funding charges as “justice served.”

Senior DP official Jeon Hyun-hee wrote on Facebook that no matter how the probe is dismissed as false, “you can’t hide the deep bows to a cult leader and the under-the-table cash.”

“The National Assembly is not a fraternity of prosecutors,” she said, adding that those who “broke the law to make their old friend president and dragged the PPP into a quagmire of insurrection” have found the end of prosecutorial camaraderie “in prison.”

She urged Kweon to “reflect alongside his jailmate, Yoon Suk-yeol, and repent for the harm inflicted on his party and Korea’s political history.”

DP supreme councilor Kim Byung-joo posted, “Goodbye, Kweon Seong-dong—I'm not going far,” adding, “If there is a crime, the price must be paid.”
