President Lee Jae-myung on September 8 directed labor authorities to overhaul oversight procedures to ensure swift resolution of wage arrears cases.

Speaking through presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung, Lee instructed that when a wage arrears complaint is filed, inspectors must investigate whether similar violations exist across the entire workplace, rather than limiting the probe to the individual worker who reported it.

Currently, labor supervisors only review the specific case of the complainant, with no process to uncover additional victims of unpaid wages within the same workplace.

“The president stressed that no worker should face the injustice of working without pay,” Kang said in a briefing at the presidential office in Yongsan. “He also ordered that if more personnel are needed to implement this shift in oversight, the number of labor inspectors should be increased to improve administrative procedures.”
