The new leadership of the ruling People Power Party (PPP), to be elected at the party convention on August 22, will officially begin its term on August 26.
PPP senior spokesperson Park Sung-hoon told reporters after an emergency committee meeting at party headquarters in Yeouido on August 21, “If no candidate secures a majority in the August 22 convention, a runoff will be held on the 26th. This creates a mismatch in the start dates of the terms for the party leader and Supreme Council members.”
He explained, “To align the start dates, the terms of the Supreme Council members elected tomorrow will also begin on the 26th. Without a confirmed party leader, convening the council would be difficult.”
