“Golden,” the original soundtrack for the Netflix animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters, has reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, marking the first time a K-pop song with a female vocalist has topped the chart.

According to Billboard’s preview article on August 11 (local time), “Golden” climbed one spot from the previous week to dethrone Alex Warren’s “Ordinary.” Billboard noted, “‘Golden’ is the ninth K-pop-related song to top the Hot 100 and the first ever featuring a female vocalist.”

The Hot 100 rankings are based on a combination of U.S. streaming numbers, radio airplay, and sales. During the latest tracking week, “Golden” recorded 31.7 million streams (up 9%), 8.4 million radio impressions (up 71%), and 7,000 sales (up 35%).

The track is performed in the film by the fictional K-pop girl group Huntrix and was created by composer Lee Jae, singer Audrey Nuna, and artist Rei Ami — all Korean Americans. Billboard introduced Lee and Rei Ami as Seoul-born and Audrey Nuna as hailing from New Jersey.

“Golden” entered the Hot 100 at No. 81 in early July, then rose to 23rd, 6th, 4th, and 2nd place twice before reaching the top in its seventh week.

The Hot 100 is Billboard’s flagship singles chart, and until now, only BTS (six songs) and members Jimin (one) and Jungkook (one) had reached No. 1 among K-pop acts. “Golden” is the first female-led K-pop song to achieve this feat.

The track had earlier topped the UK’s Official Singles Chart Top 100, one of the two most influential pop charts alongside Billboard, further cementing its global success.
