KCON, the K-pop festival hosted by CJ ENM, has been officially recognized by the Los Angeles City Council for its cultural and economic contributions, with August 1 designated as "KCON Day."
According to CJ ENM on August 3, the LA City Council formally declared August 1 (local time) as "KCON Day," marking the first city-level recognition since the festival began in 2012. The motion was jointly proposed by council members John Lee, Katy Yaroslavsky, Curren Price, and Heather Hutt, who praised KCON for boosting LA’s tourism and economy through Korean music and culture.
Launched in Irvine in 2012 with around 10,000 attendees, KCON has grown into a major event, attracting over 120,000 visitors across three days during "KCON LA 2024." The festival was broadcast nationwide on The CW Network and streamed globally through digital platforms. This year, CJ ENM partnered with Amazon Music to extend coverage to Europe.
Additionally, the California State Assembly recognized KCON as an official cultural event. Assembly member Mark Gonzalez called it "a leading platform for the expansion of K-pop and Korean culture."
CJ ENM stated, "It is meaningful that KCON’s continuous efforts have been acknowledged by the city of Los Angeles. We will continue to promote Korean culture and content worldwide."
"KCON LA 2025" is being held from August 1 to 3 at Crypto.com Arena and the Los Angeles Convention Center.
