Kim Byung-ki, acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), pledged on July 7 to show the public what “real politics and government that work for the people” look like, as the ruling bloc accelerates efforts to revive the economy and address daily challenges.

Speaking at a Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly, Kim stated, “The Democratic Party and the government will give our all to saving livelihoods.”

He noted that the first high-level policy meeting under President Lee Jae-myung’s administration took place the previous day, where officials discussed “urgent matters directly affecting people's lives, such as price stabilization, heatwave measures, and execution of the supplementary budget.”

“The Lee administration and the Democratic Party are pursuing economic recovery with urgency,” Kim said. “But along with speed, precise and thoughtful implementation is equally critical.”

He emphasized that no one should be left behind in the distribution of aid. “We will carefully ensure that every citizen can benefit from the supplementary budget and other livelihood support measures,” he said.

Kim also stressed the need for a swift cabinet confirmation process. “In order for the government to function properly, it’s essential that the cabinet is completed quickly. We will proceed with confirmation hearings in the July session without delay or hesitation.”

He concluded by affirming the party’s readiness to act: “If it’s something we can do right now—something the people truly need—we will act without hesitation.”
