KPop Demon Hunters, Netflix’s hit animated film blending K-pop with occult action, is making waves not only on screen but also in the music charts, with its original soundtrack achieving a record-breaking debut.
According to Billboard on June 29 (local time), the KPop Demon Hunters OST entered the Billboard 200 at No. 8, marking the highest debut for any soundtrack released this year.
The album earned the equivalent of 31,000 units, including 3,000 in physical sales, 27,000 in streaming-equivalent albums (SEA), and 1,000 in track-equivalent albums (TEA). It is the first soundtrack this year to land in the top 10 of the chart.
The album features music by the fictional girl group Huntrix and boy group Lion Boys, characters from the film. Highlight tracks include “Take Down,” “Golden,” and “Soda Pop.” Notably, a special version of “Take Down” featuring TWICE members Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung drew significant attention from fans.
Streaming performance has also been strong. As of June 28, “Golden” ranked No. 7 on Spotify’s Daily Top Songs Global chart, followed by “Your Idol” at No. 11 and “Soda Pop” at No. 17. The TWICE version of “Take Down” also made the list, debuting at No. 100.
In the U.S. Spotify chart released the same day, “Your Idol” reached No. 6, “Golden” came in at No. 8, and “Soda Pop” placed No. 29, signaling robust American interest as well.
KPop Demon Hunters is an action-fantasy animation that follows K-pop superstars Lumi, Mira, and Joy as they fight to protect the world behind the scenes of their glamorous careers. The film has gained attention for its unique blend of K-pop and occult fantasy storytelling.
