The Rebuilding Korea Party (RKP) offered contrasting evaluations on June 30 of President Lee Jae-myung’s nominees for Justice Minister and Senior Presidential Secretary for Civil Affairs, praising the former while expressing reservations about the latter.
Party spokesperson Yoon Jae-kwan released a statement lauding Justice Minister nominee Jung Sung-ho as “the right person to lead prosecution reform,” citing his legislative record and close alignment with President Lee’s reform agenda. “He has consistently demonstrated a firm commitment to reforming the prosecution during his time in the National Assembly and is someone who deeply understands President Lee’s vision,” Yoon said. “We expect him to pass the confirmation hearing without issue and become a successful Minister of Justice. We look forward to working with him closely.”
However, concerns were raised over Bong Wook, the nominee for Senior Presidential Secretary for Civil Affairs. “Since Mr. Bong has not been active in the public eye, people are naturally curious about his stance on prosecution reform,” Yoon noted. “Some still remember him as someone who was extremely passive on reform in the past. He will need to make a concerted effort to dispel those concerns.”
Yoon concluded, “The bowstring of prosecution reform is tightly drawn, aimed directly at its target. The Rebuilding Korea Party will remain the icebreaker that leads the way.”
