ALLDAY PROJECT, a new co-ed K-pop group drawing attention even before its debut, officially launched its activities on June 23 with a photo event held at the “Il-sang’s Gap” space in LG U+ headquarters in Gangnam, Seoul. The group’s lineup—Annie, Tarzan, Bailey, Woochan, and Youngseo—was unveiled just ahead of the release of their debut single FAMOUS.
Produced and overseen by Teddy, head of YG-affiliated The Black Label, ALLDAY PROJECT has generated buzz for its unique co-ed composition and the notable backgrounds of its members.
Annie, born in 2002, is the daughter of Shinsegae Group President Chung Yoo-kyung and the granddaughter of Shinsegae Chairwoman Lee Myung-hee. She has been a topic of discussion for months as a rare “chaebol-born” celebrity entering the entertainment industry.
Bailey, born in 2004, is a Korean-American dancer with choreography credits for SHINee and Red Velvet. Tarzan, a model and dance competition winner, has appeared in music videos for NewJeans and (G)I-DLE. Youngseo was the runner-up on Are You Next, securing a spot in the debut lineup for ILLIT. Woochan, born in 2005, was the youngest finalist on Show Me the Money and trained at Cube and Big Hit before debuting.
Buzz around their debut was fueled by pre-release content on June 9, including a team introduction and a teaser for FAMOUS, which garnered over 220,000 and 460,000 views respectively, signaling strong early interest.
Co-ed idol groups once held a clear place in the K-pop landscape but have largely disappeared with the rise of fandom-centric marketing. Only a few such groups, like Koyote and KARD, remain active today. ALLDAY PROJECT is the first major co-ed idol debut in eight years since KARD, making it symbolically significant within the industry.
Experts say past challenges for co-ed groups included difficulties in conceptual planning, gender-based fandom dynamics, and a consumption model dominated by social media. For example, Sunny Hill debuted as a co-ed quintet but eventually restructured into a girl group. KARD, meanwhile, shifted focus primarily to international markets.
An industry insider commented, “The co-ed format is a bold move in today’s K-pop industry. If ALLDAY PROJECT succeeds, it could change the perception of mixed-gender idol groups entirely.”
