President Lee Jae-myung announced on June 11 that he plans to build a “new Korea-China relationship,” following a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping the previous day.

In a post on social media, Lee shared highlights from the conversation and wrote, “President Xi and I agreed to achieve progress in people-to-people, cultural, and economic exchanges between the two countries. We also reaffirmed our commitment to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and I will continue close communication to build a renewed Korea-China relationship.”

Lee also reaffirmed the importance of the three major special counsel bills, which he signed into law on June 10. “The Lee administration’s first official legislative act is to launch three independent investigations — into the insurrection, Kim Keon-hee, and the death of Marine Cpl. Chae,” he wrote. “We will ensure that the people’s demand for accountability over the insurrection and restoration of constitutional order is fully reflected in national governance.”

Lee further shared moments from his visit to the presidential cafeteria and convenience store on June 10, where he greeted staff and briefly chatted with reporters.

“After lunch at the cafeteria, I took a moment to thank the women who work tirelessly behind the scenes. I also had a short but honest conversation with reporters at the convenience store,” he said.

Reflecting on the anniversary of the June 10 pro-democracy movement, Lee added, “Days like today remind me that the freedoms we enjoy were made possible by the sacrifice of those who fought for democracy. In honoring the spirit of the June 10 Democratic Uprising, I reaffirm my commitment to advancing a true democratic republic without wavering.”

President Lee also released another installment of his public message series titled “Today with Lee Jae-myung, reporting to the people” on June 11, following the first message the day before. He is expected to continue this series on Instagram for the foreseeable future.
