Kim Moon-soo, presidential candidate of the ruling People Power Party (PPP), conceded defeat in the 21st presidential election on June 4, stating, “I humbly accept the will of the people.”
Speaking at a press conference at PPP headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, at 1:30 a.m., Kim said, “I congratulate President-elect Lee Jae-myung on his victory.”
“I will never forget the overwhelming support I received from the people,” Kim added. “I am also deeply grateful to my fellow party members who worked tirelessly by my side.”
“South Korea has always advanced through the power of its people, no matter the crisis,” he emphasized. “I sincerely thank everyone who gave such strong support to someone as lacking as myself.”
As of 1:55 a.m., with nationwide ballot counting underway, Lee Jae-myung was leading with 48.39 percent of the vote, while Kim stood at 42.71 percent.
