Singer Lee Chae-yeon caught attention on May 29 by posting a lighthearted early voting photo, cleverly addressing the political sensitivities that often accompany such posts during election season.
Sharing two photos on her social media, Lee wrote, “It’s early voting day. You can vote anywhere, regardless of your residence.” One image showed her hand stamped with the official voting seal. In the other, she appeared dressed in a white shirt, black athletic pants, a sports cap, and a blue wristband, holding a clear box filled with red cherry tomatoes.
Adding a playful caption, she noted, “I can’t change the wristband, so I’m neutralizing it with cherry tomatoes.” By incorporating both blue and red—the symbolic colors of Korea’s two major political parties—Lee appeared to intentionally sidestep any political misinterpretation.
Celebrity voting photos and even their outfit colors often spark controversy during election periods. Recently, aespa member Karina faced backlash for posting a photo wearing a jacket with red lettering, which she later deleted after online debate. The incident has once again spotlighted similar concerns during this presidential race.
Some fans humorously referenced rapper Defconn, who once wore a jacket featuring all party colors in a previous election, calling Lee’s look “a new standard for a neutral outfit.”
