On the 18th day of his campaign, Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung is touring key districts in Seoul's southern area—Gangdong, Songpa, Seocho, Gangnam, Gwanak, and Dongjak—urging citizens to participate in early voting ahead of the June 3 presidential election.
Cho Seung-rae, chief spokesperson for the Democratic Party's election committee, introduced Lee’s campaign schedule on May 29, saying, “Lee is the commander-in-chief for overcoming crises,” and called on voters to “choose hope for Korea through early voting.”
“Early voting runs for two days, today and tomorrow. With overseas voter turnout reaching record highs, public enthusiasm for this election is stronger than ever,” Cho said. “Last winter, the Korean people lit up Gwanghwamun and led the movement to remove Yoon Suk-yeol. But it’s not over until it’s over. The 21st presidential election—the culmination of the people’s ‘revolution of light’—ends at 8 p.m. on June 3.”
He added, “Voters win. By taking part in early voting, people can exercise their rights and shape Korea’s future. Every single vote can protect democracy and improve the quality of politics.”
Lee’s day will begin with casting his early vote at a polling station in Seodaemun. His first official event will be an 11 a.m. roundtable on startup policy, where he discussed increasing R&D budgets and easing regulations to foster Korea’s venture and startup ecosystem.
At 2 p.m., Lee is set to appear on the YouTube program Maebul Show, where he will present his vision for overcoming social conflict and building a unified and prosperous Korea.
At 4 p.m., he will hold a rally near Jamsil Baseball Stadium, engaging residents of Gangdong and Songpa. Lee plans to promote the GTX-D line project, ensure the timely extension of Subway Line 9, and unveil plans to turn Songpa into a hub for K-content and international MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events.
At 5:30 p.m., he will address residents of Seocho and Gangnam at Exit 1 of the Express Bus Terminal Station. According to Cho, Lee will present a blueprint to make Seocho a center of K-culture and elevate Gangnam’s global competitiveness as the economic capital of Seoul.
At 7 p.m., Lee will visit Gwannak Eutteum Park to meet voters from Gwanak and Dongjak. He plans to present policies to transform Gwanak into a high-end residential district through urban renewal, and support waterfront park development and large-scale urban regeneration projects in Dongjak, including the Susaek area.
Cho concluded by appealing for public participation: “Let us unite once more to complete our democracy. Be the protagonists of a new Republic of Korea. Help us write another chapter in the history of the people’s victory through your vote.”
