Samsung Electronics announced on May 14 that it has acquired Germany’s FläktGroup, Europe’s largest HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) company, in a deal valued at approximately 2.2 trillion won (15 billion euros). This marks Samsung’s largest M&A deal in eight years and signals its full-scale entry into the global HVAC market.
The company signed a definitive agreement to purchase 100% of FläktGroup shares from UK-based private equity firm Triton. The acquisition positions Samsung to expand into fast-growing sectors such as data center climate control.
FläktGroup, with over a century of accumulated expertise, offers premium air solutions across Europe and global markets. It specializes in high-efficiency cooling technologies for data centers and won the “Cooling Innovation of the Year” award at the 2024 DCS Awards.
Samsung plans to integrate Fläkt’s air control system (FläktEdge) with its own building management platforms such as b.IoT and SmartThings, aiming to establish a stable, maintenance-based business model.
This acquisition follows Samsung’s recent joint venture with U.S. HVAC company Lennox, launched in May to penetrate the North American market. The company is also expanding its portfolio in strategic sectors including robotics, AI, and healthcare through targeted acquisitions.
Samsung expects to complete the acquisition of FläktGroup within the year.
