Moon Da-hye, daughter of former President Moon Jae-in, is under police investigation over allegations that she failed to deliver charity funds raised at an event, as originally promised.
On May 7, the Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul confirmed that Moon has been booked as a suspect on fraud charges and is currently under investigation.
According to police, Moon held a charity auction-style exhibition at a gallery she operated in Seodaemun District in December 2022, during which she pledged to donate all proceeds to a nonprofit foundation. However, she is accused of not following through on that commitment.
Moon had promoted the event by announcing that proceeds from artwork—donated by over 30 participating artists—would be given to a nonprofit organization.
Authorities began their investigation after receiving a complaint last October alleging that the funds were not properly delivered. Police have since obtained financial records from Moon and the artwork buyers and are tracing the flow of the money.
Meanwhile, Moon is currently appealing a ₩15 million fine imposed in a separate case last month, in which she was convicted in the first trial for drunk driving and operating an unlicensed lodging business.
