Girls’ Generation member Taeyeon has shared a public statement written by her global fan union, calling on SM Entertainment to provide feedback and compensation following the abrupt cancellation of her Tokyo concert.
On April 24, Taeyeon posted the full text of the fan statement on her social media, including an English version on Instagram Stories. The letter, titled “Feedback and Compensation Demanded Regarding the Cancellation of Taeyeon’s ‘The TENSE’ Concert in Tokyo,” strongly criticized SM Entertainment’s handling of the incident.
“We demand an explanation from SM Entertainment regarding the one-sided and insincere cancellation notice,” the fan union wrote. “Such inadequate measures have caused significant financial and emotional distress to fans.”
The group emphasized that, to date, SM has not issued a direct apology or provided any detailed compensation plan. The statement outlined five key demands for the company, including clarifying responsibility, presenting tangible remedies, and announcing future schedule plans.
The fans also warned against misplacing blame onto the artist. “We strongly object to any distortion that shifts responsibility for this situation onto the artist,” the letter said, urging the company to take responsible action.
SM Entertainment had announced on April 17 that Taeyeon’s The TENSE concert—scheduled for April 19–20 at Ariake Arena in Tokyo to mark her solo debut’s 10th anniversary—had been canceled due to transportation issues involving equipment. The company stated it had “explored every possibility” but ultimately deemed it impossible to proceed with the show in optimal conditions. They also mentioned that alternative arrangements were under consideration.
In the wake of the announcement, Taeyeon herself expressed sorrow on her fan platform. “I’m deeply worried about the fans, and I feel heartbroken,” she wrote. “A concert built on so many people’s hard work and anticipation vanished in an instant—it felt stolen. I don’t even know how to express this sense of emptiness and loss.”
Despite the Tokyo cancellation, Taeyeon will continue her Asia tour with upcoming performances scheduled in Macau, Singapore, Bangkok, and Hong Kong.
