Kwon Young-se, interim leader of the ruling People Power Party (PPP), dismissed suggestions on April 14 that the party is moving to endorse Han Deok-soo as its presidential candidate, emphasizing that no candidate would be either favored or disadvantaged.
Speaking at a PPP emergency committee meeting at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, Kwon said, “The rules of the party primary are clear. All candidates must start on equal footing and compete under the same standards.”
He criticized internal speculation about backroom deals, saying, “Irresponsible remarks from some quarters are damaging the party. Baseless conspiracy theories aimed at creating a favorable environment for certain individuals are unacceptable.”
Kwon warned that while such tactics might seem beneficial in the short term, they could ultimately backfire. “They must realize this is a self-defeating move that will darken the party’s future,” he said.
