Singer G-Dragon’s voice and iris image have been beamed into space as part of a groundbreaking media art project.
The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), in collaboration with Galaxy Corporation, successfully launched the world’s first space audio transmission based on media art on April 9.
The project, a fusion of entertainment and AI technology, featured a symbolic transmission of G-Dragon’s audio message and music into space. The singer-songwriter, who also serves as a visiting professor at KAIST’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, lent his voice and creative input to the initiative.

Professor Jinjoon Lee of KAIST’s Graduate School of Culture Technology created a media art piece titled Iris, combining AI-generated imagery of G-Dragon’s iris with audio elements derived from the ancient Korean Emile Bell.
The project included a transmission of G-Dragon’s track Home Sweet Home, followed by his voice saying, “Hello, this is G-Dragon.” The Satellite Research Center confirmed the sound will be broadcast once daily.
Lee explained, “Through this work, we aimed to express the infinite universe seen through G-Dragon’s gaze—reflecting the inner depths of humanity.”
