In Netflix's "When Life Gives You Tangerines," which is hailed as one of the most talked-about dramas in the first half of the year, Park Bo-gum plays the younger version of the male protagonist, Gwansik. In the story, Gwansik is a sunflower-like character who is unwaveringly devoted to Aesoon, played by IU, with whom he grew up in a seaside village in Jeju. Quoting the character's introduction, Gwansik is portrayed as a "love farmer" who silently plants flowers wherever Aesoon's gaze reaches.
With four episodes left until the finale, Park Bo-gum met reporters at a hotel in Seoul on Monday. He shared his thoughts on playing the role, saying, "Some people say that Gwansik is a unicorn-like character who can never exist, but I think differently. Everyone has a heart like Gwansik's that cherishes and takes care of their loved ones, even if they don't openly express it. I believe there could be someone like Gwansik somewhere out there." He added, "I feel proud just to have participated in a project that I can recommend to others."
"When Life Gives You Tangerines," is a 16-episode series unfolding the lives, love, and adventures of the bold and spirited Aesoon, played by IU and Moon So-ri, and the steadfast and dedicated Gwansik, played by Park Bo-gum and Park Hae-jun, across all four seasons. Unlike typical Netflix releases that drop all episodes at once, the drama premiered its first act (episodes 1–4) on March 7, followed by weekly Friday releases of four episodes. The journey will conclude with the unveiling of the fourth act (episodes 13–16) on March 28.
