A rally against President Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment was held at Dongdaegu Station Square on Saturday. The number of participants was estimated by organizers at 150,000, while police unofficially estimated around 52,000. This crowd is reported to be the largest ever at Dongdaegu Station since its establishment. Renowned Korean history lecturer Jeon Han-gil attended at the rally and expressed strong opposition to the impeachment, stating, "If the Constitutional Court impeaches President Yoon, they will be traitors to South Korea and enemies of democracy enjoying the principles of the Constitution."
Jeon participated as a speaker at the “National Emergency Prayer Meeting Against the Impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol,” hosted by the protestant organization Save Korea at Park Chung-hee Square in Dongdaegu Station. “All citizens have realized that the Democratic Party is the main instigator of the insurrection,” he said during his speech.
"The Democratic Party is impeaching a president elected by the people and paralyzing the executive branch and the national system. Due to this public sentiment, President Yoon's approval rating exceeded 50% last week and is expected to reach 60% soon after the rally," the lecturer said.
"Sixty percent of the people are calling for the immediate release and reinstatement of the president, and the Constitutional Court judges cannot defy the will of the people. This rally has enlightened people about the biased behavior of the media, the collapse of justice and common sense by the Public Service Commission and the Seoul Western District Court, and the true nature of the Constitutional Court, which is composed of biased judges," he said.
He pointed out the ideological bias of the Constitutional Court judges and warned that if they support the impeachment of President Yoon, they would face public condemnation as the "second Five Eulsa Traitors," who were Korean officials that signed a treaty in 1905, making Korea a protectorate of Japan, and considered traitors for betraying their country.
Regarding the ruling People Power Party, he said, “I will forgive their actions during the impeachment crisis, but from now on, they must work to ensure that the impeachment of President Yoon is dismissed and that he is reinstated to his position."
At the rally, citizens of Daegu held Korean and American flags and placards with phrases like "Verify the fraudulent election" and chanted slogans such as "Release the President." The massive turnout filled Park Chung-hee Square at Dongdaegu Station, leaving no space to step, and the surrounding roads were heavily congested.
