Samsung Electronics has appointed Jun Young-hyun, vice chairman and head of the Device Solutions (DS) division, as its CEO and will retain its dual-CEO system. Samsung’s memory chip department will be put under the direct leadership of Jun Young-hyun while its foundry business will be headed by Han Jin-man, former executive vice president and president of Device Solutions America. The DX Division, led by Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee, remains largely unchanged.
Samsung Electronics unveiled its year-end leadership reshuffle on Wednesday, which included promoting two executives to president and appointing seven others to new roles. Industry observers say the latest reshuffle focused at ensuring future competitiveness in chip business.
To this end, the tech giant has strengthened the direct control system of vice chairman Jun Young-hyun, who took over the DS division in May. Jun was named CEO and will also lead the memory business department, a key position in the DS division. A position in charge of management strategy, directly under the DS division, has been established. Kim Yong-kwan, former executive vice president of a business support taskforce (TF), has been promoted to president of management strategy at the DS division. The foundry business, which suffered a massive deficit, will be led by former vice president Han Jin-man. Han will oversee attracting customers such as Nvidia. Samsung has created a new chief technology officer (CTO) role at the president level and appointed Nam Seok-woo, former president and head of FAB Engineering & Operations, to the role.
Vice Chairman Chung Hyun-ho, who leads the company’s business support task force, retained his position. Park Hak-kyu, head of management support at the DX division, will become the president in charge of the Business Support Task Force. Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee will continue overseeing the DX division and oversee an nearly-created quality innovation committee. Ko Han-sung, CEO of Samsung Bioepis Co., has been named to head the Future Business Planning division, a position previously held by Kyung Kye-hyun. “The executive reshuffle aims to tackle uncertain internal and external business conditions while preparing for new growth,” the company said in a statement.
