President Yoon Suk-yeol ordered his aides Monday to strengthen communication with the people and the ruling party.

Yoon’s remarks came during a weekly meeting with his senior secretaries in Seoul, his spokesperson Lee Do-woon said during a press briefing.

The presidential office said that Yoon’s instruction is focused on strengthening policy communication.

“We are trying to revitalize the policy of the government a little more,” an official from the presidential office said. “Since the party sees voters in the field and in the region, the public sentiment is conveyed directly, and strengthening communication with the ruling party can be a way to strengthen communication with the people,” the official said.

The president also had a weekly meeting with Prime Minister Han Duk-soo and discussed key economic issues. The president asked that all ministries do everything possible to stabilize prices related to people’s livelihoods, given there are growing concerns about another increase in prices caused by instability in the Middle East.

“Stabilizing prices is the most concerning issue among economy issues. “The price issue has a structural problem of increasing international oil prices, but we must do our best,” an official from the presidential office said.

“Starting tomorrow, ministers of related ministries will closely check prices for people’s livelihoods,” the official said. “If necessary, related ministries will discuss comprehensive measures.”

President Yoon is also expected to speed up personnel reshuffle to focus on taking care of people’s livelihoods ahead of next year’s general elections. The president is reportedly considering to reshuffle his office and the Cabinet after the parliamentary audit ends on November 7, according to the presidential office and the ruling party.

Several senior secretaries, including Kang Seung-kyu (civic and social agendas), Kim Eun-hye (public relations), Kang Myung-koo (state planning), and Joo Jin-woo (law), are anticipated to leave the office to run in the general elections in April next year.
