Ahn Cheol-soo says he wants to lead victory in greater Seoul area

“As the Seoul capital area is the biggest match in the upcoming general election, I will lead the victory as the commander of the capital area.”

Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo of the ruling People Power Party (PPP) made the remarks during his guest appearance on ‘ASIATODAY INSIGHT’ on Wednesday, stressing the importance of winning the Seoul capital area in the next general election. In the meantime, Ahn said he is the most suitable person for the commander of the Seoul capital area. Recalling that the PPP won only 17 out of 121 seats in the Seoul capital area in the last general election, Ahn reiterated the importance of winning the greater Seoul region.

“The last general election was a defeat in the greater Seoul region rather than a nationwide defeat,” Rep. Ahn said. “We became a small party in the greater Seoul area with only 17 out of 121 seats. If we had won half of it, we would have won 160 seats in total,” he said. “Victory will be once again determined by the election results in the capital area,” he added. “The Democratic Party has a strong presence by filling all of its representatives, floor leaders, and elected supreme council members with lawmakers from the Seoul metropolitan area. The PPP has to be prepared against it, and the commander must be in the greater Seoul area for victory in the region.”

Ahn cited his strength as having a fixed base among swing voters and young generation in their 20s and 30s. “Votes from swing voters and young voters in their 20s and 30s are important, and we always have more than 20 percent of fixed supporters,” he said. “Swing voters focus on who is more competent, not who is a member of a certain party. They choose someone who knows how to address economic and regional issues, someone who will not permit the corruption, and someone who can donate his assets,” Ahn said. “I am confident that we can definitely win the upcoming general election if our supporters and swing voters join hands.”

In particular, he stressed that he led the birth of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, saying he achieved regime change by withdrawing his candidacy and declaring his support for Yoon. “A stable, peaceful country and people living happily is the most important value of conservatism. I am the right person to realize that value,” he said.
