Renowned veteran musical actors in a rare move opened up about their position in regard to the recent casting controversy between Ock Joo-hyun and Kim Ho-young.

On June 22, Park Kolleen, Choi Jung-won, and Nam Kyung-joo issued a statement called “An appeal to all people in musical industry.” In the statement, they said, “Actors should focus on acting, not infringing the production company’s own rights, such as casting. They should love and respect fellow actors and  work hard to create a good mood.”

They also emphasized things that staff and production companies should keep in mind, saying, “The staff should treat all actors equally so that the work doesn’t go just for the convenience of some actors. Also, production companies must do their best to keep their promises to the staff and actors they work with.”

“As the first-generation musical actors, we can’t help but feel more heartbroken regarding the recent complaint case in the musical industry. We think this current situation was caused because the principles have been broken,” they said.

“We feel the responsibility as seniors who have been looking on the situation with folded arms. We will no longer watch on the sidelines. If there are unfairness and disadvantages in the entire process of performing musicals, we will face it and work together to change it properly.”

The statement came after musical actress Ock Joo-hyun filed a complaint against actor Kim Ho-young after creating a social media post alluding that Ock Joo-hyun has gotten involved in the casting of the anniversary musical for Elizabeth and cast her close friend for major roles.
