Main opposition presidential candidate Yoon Suk-yeol announced Wednesday the dissolution of his campaign committee, including the departure of committee chief Kim Chong-in, saying he will start over from scratch.
“Everything is entirely my fault as the candidate,” Yoon said during the press conference.
During the conference, Yoon apologized to the public for the PPP’s internal strife and other controversies, and pledged to form a new election team to start anew from scratch.
He bowed his head, saying, “I apologize to the people for causing concern over matters related to my family.” He also said, “I will be open to the people’s harsh criticisms about my weakness.”
“The committee was described as a mammoth, and I will admit that it has been failing to understand the public sentiment properly, and set it right again,” Yoon said. “I am also aware of the public’s concerns that people close to me are influencing the election committee. I promise not to let it happen again.”
“Instead of distributing positions to lawmakers, I will form a thoroughly practical election team,” he said. “The new campaign team will be led by young and competent people. I deeply reflect on the actions that have disappointed the people in their 20s and 30s. I will show a completely different look to them,” he said. Yoon announced the appointment of four-term PPP lawmaker Rep. Kwon Young-se as the new leader of his campaign.
“I will go back to the Yoon Suk-yeol people expected. Also, I will say the words the people want to hear, not what I want to say,” he said. “I will show the people a changed Yoon Suk-yeol with a completely different look.”
