North Korean leader Kim Jong-un showed his strong willingness in a letter to South Korean President Moon Jae-in to visit Seoul next year.
“Chairman Kim sent a personal letter to President Moon today,” said Blue House spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom on Sunday.
“Chairman Kim delivered a warm year-end greeting wrapping up the year 2018 and an intention to move together for the sake of peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula,” Kim said.
Regarding the North Korean leader’s Seoul visit, the presidential spokesman said, “Chairman Kim expressed disappointment for not making his promised trip to Seoul by the end of this year as pledged by the leaders during their Pyongyang summit. Chairman Kim expressed a strong willingness to visit Seoul while closely watching relevant situations.”
“Chairman Kim said the two leaders have induced practical and bold measures that go beyond the long-running confrontations by meeting three times in a year and emphasized that they have lifted their people from military tension and fear of war,” Kim said.
“Chairman Kim also expressed his intentions to meet President Moon frequently again in 2019 to advance discussions on the Korean Peninsula’s peace and prosperity and also discuss issues on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,” the spokesman said.
It has been reported that the two-page personal letter to Moon was conveyed by one of North Korean officials.
The presidential office said that President Moon is expected to reply to Kim’s letter soon, but refused to give any specific details.
