The government will conduct a nationwide resident registration facts survey starting on the 20th. The survey is a routine investigation to verify whether registered residential addresses match actual places of residence, and the government utilizes the results as basic data for administrative services such as welfare and disaster management.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 15th that it will conduct the 2026 Resident Registration Facts Survey for all citizens until December 14 to improve the accuracy of resident registration statistics.
Citizens can first participate in the survey non-face-to-face using the Government24 app until midnight on September 7. The non-face-to-face survey was introduced in 2022 to facilitate participation for dual-income and single-person households, and approximately 12.75 million people participated last year.
Because the system verifies actual residency at the registered address through mobile phone GPS location information, participants must complete the survey while physically present at their registered residence. One member of a household sharing the same address can represent the entire household to respond.
For households that do not participate in the non-face-to-face survey, local village leaders (I and Tong heads) and municipal officials will conduct door-to-door visits to verify actual residency from September 8 to November 9.
If discrepancies are found between the registered information and actual residency during the door-to-door survey, or if residency cannot be confirmed, the government will officially adjust the resident registration records through an ex officio process following due procedures from November 10 to December 7.
"The resident registration facts survey is an essential investigation to maintain accurate resident registration statistics, which serve as the foundation for policy formulation by the national and local governments," Vice Minister of the Interior and Safety Kim Min-jae said. "We ask for the active participation and cooperation of the public in the resident registration facts survey."
