Cannes-winning "Parasite," directed by Bong Joon-ho, surpassed 5 million moviegoers on June 6, eight days after its release.
According to data from the Korean Film Council, the film reached 5 million as of 12:47 pm on Thursday.
The film attracted some 568,000 moviegoers on the first day of its release. It reached over 2 million moviegoers in three days, 3 million moviegoers in four days, and 4 million moviegoers in six days.
To celebrate the achievement, the cast wrote handwritten messages of congratulations. The cast also took photos of themselves with their message in a style that resembles the movie poster.
"Parasite" is about an unemployed man who gets involved in the lives of a wealthy family when his eldest son begins tutoring their daughter.
