The Cannes-crowned “Parasite” surpassed a cumulative 3.5 million admissions on the fifth day of its run, crossing its break-even point.
The film sold 3.74 million tickets from Thursday to Monday, winning the first place on the box office as well as crossing its break-event point of 3.5 million viewers, according to the data from the Korean Film Council (KOFIC).
“Parasite” tells the story of unemployed man Gi Taek (played by Song Kang-ho), who gets involved with a wealthy family when his eldest son Gi Woo (played by Choi Woo-sik) starts tutoring their daughter. Directed by Bong Joon-ho, “Parasite” became the first South Korean title to grab the highest honor at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival.
Walt Disney’s “Aladdin” retained the second spot after attracting a total of 2.23 million viewers.
