Actor Kim Jae-won will be joining the cast of upcoming MBC drama 'Splendid Politics' (a.k.a 'Hwajung').

On January 30, Will Entertainment stated, "Kim Jae-won will be starring in 'Splendid Politics' as charismatic King Injo."

'Splendid Politics' is set in the chaotic period of Joseon Dynasty, and depicts the desire for power and jealousy for those who have power through successive reigns. The drama garnered attention for the reunion of PD Kim Sang-ho, who had directed "Couple or Trouble", "Can You Hear My Heart" and "Arang and the Magistrate", and writer Kim Yi-young, who had written "Yi San", "Dong Yi", and "Horse Doctor".

Kim Jae-won will take the role of King Injo, the 16th king of Joseon Dynasty, and was the son of Grandprince Jeongwon. Injo becomes King after taking down his predecessor Gwanghaegun (Cha Seung-won) through coup d'etat. He also tries to get rid of Princess Jungmyung (Lee Yeon-hee) to solidify his position.

Meanwhile "Splendid Politics" is set to air in April.
