Former President Yoon Suk-yeol failed to comply with the first summons by Special Counsel Min Jung-ki’s team investigating First Lady Kim Keon-hee. The team has notified Yoon to appear again on July 30.

Yoon was ordered to appear at the special counsel’s office in Seoul’s Jongno District by 10 a.m. on Tuesday but did not show up.

"The former president failed to appear without providing any explanation," the special counsel’s team said, adding, "We have resent an investigation cooperation request to the warden of Seoul Detention Center, ordering his appearance at 10 a.m. tomorrow."

The special counsel had earlier sent a subpoena on July 21 to Yoon, who has been detained at Seoul Detention Center since July 10 following an additional indictment. Since then, Yoon has repeatedly refused to attend both special counsel summonses and his ongoing insurrection trial, only appearing at his detention review hearing on July 18.

Yoon and his wife are accused of accepting free polling services from political broker Myung Tae-gyun during the March 2023 presidential election in exchange for securing former lawmaker Kim Young-sun’s nomination in a by-election that same year.

Meanwhile, the special counsel has also summoned Kim Keon-hee to appear on August 6.
