Broadcaster Tei faced backlash from netizens after sharing his sentiment of "regret" over the death of former People Power Party lawmaker Jang Je-won during his radio show.
On April 1, Tei hosted MBC Radio's “Good Morning FM Tei” and shared the news of Jang's passing. He added his personal comment, saying, "It's regretful."
Listeners responded strongly on the radio board, leaving comments such as, "Not regretful at all," "Not even a little regretful. Think of how many people he hurt," "The victims must have suffered," "His end is miserable," "Does dying mean he escapes justice?" "Did he apologize to the victims?" and "Good riddance."
According to police, Jang was found dead in an officetel in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, at around 11:40 PM on March 31.
Jang, a three-term lawmaker and a key figure in the pro-Yoon faction, was accused in November 2015 of sexual assault by his secretary, referred to as "A," while serving as vice president of a university in Busan.
Jang's side had consistently denied the allegations, claiming that the sexual assault accusations made by "A" were entirely false. It was reported that Jang also denied the charges during police questioning on March 28.
However, the day before his death, "A" released a video allegedly taken inside a hotel room in Gangnam-gu at the time of the incident, leading to speculation that Jang may have taken his own life.
