Several major cultural sites in Seoul will close on April 4 in anticipation of the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol.
The Palaces and Tombs Division of the Cultural Heritage Administration announced that Changdeokgung Palace will suspend its nighttime viewing program and temporarily close its gate that connects to Changgyeonggung Palace. Though the sites are located at some distance from the court, the closures come as a precaution amid expectations of large gatherings near Anguk Station.
“This decision was made to prioritize the safety of visitors,” an official stated. “Depending on how the situation unfolds, additional closures may be implemented without prior notice.”
Other key royal palaces—Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, and Deoksugung—will also suspend public access on the day of the verdict. Cultural events scheduled at these sites have either been canceled or postponed, including the Royal Guard Changing Ceremony at Gyeongbokgung, nighttime tours of Changdeokgung's Huijeongdang, and the Seokjojeon tours at Deoksugung.
A traditional sauce-making cultural event that was scheduled for the afternoon of April 4 at Gyeongbokgung will also be rescheduled.
In addition, several nearby institutions—including the Seoul branch of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History, the National Folk Museum of Korea, the National Palace Museum, and Cheong Wa Dae (the former presidential residence)—will be closed for the day.
