The presidential office on August 5 dismissed reports that it had requested a review of the capital gains tax threshold for major shareholders.
At a press briefing held at the Yongsan presidential office, spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung said, "The presidential office has not made any request to review the capital gains tax threshold for major shareholders," in response to media reports suggesting it had asked the ruling party to gather opinions on the matter.
"If there are opinions from the ruling party or others, we are willing to listen," Kang clarified, emphasizing that her comments were meant to express "a general principle of being open to gathering the ruling party’s views on various legislative and policy issues."
She added, "The Lee Jae-myung administration is steadily implementing measures to structurally strengthen the fundamentals of Korea’s stock market," noting, "It would be difficult to reconsider policies solely based on short-term fluctuations in stock prices when the focus is on fundamentally restructuring the market."
