“We will not accept any nuclear weapon in Korea peninsula and I will not disregard anyone who tries to remove our blooded US-Korea alliance,” said Cory Gardner, the chairman of the Subcommittee on East Asia and the Pacific of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

As a pro-Korean legislator and hardliner on North Korea, Sen. Gardner stressed the importance of the “blooded alliance between US and Korea” during an exclusive interview with AsiaToday in Los Angeles on Friday.

Regarding North Korea’s denuclearization, he revealed that the media deceits the citizen with the name of “Peaceful Unification” and disguised the North Korea as being denuclearized. “We will not accept any nuclear weapon in Korea peninsula and I will not disregard anyone who tries to remove our blooded US-Korea alliance,” he said.

Sen. Gardner pointed out that all the issues involving inter-Korean summits, the demilitarized zone (DMZ), and the Northern Limit Line (NLL) should be discussed on the US-Korea alliance foundation.

He said that the South Korean government should clearly inform the public of the content of the meetings between the heads of the two Koreas, and that Seoul must communicate closely with Washington so that the US-Korea alliance is not damaged.

Regarding Seoul’s recent decision to end the GSOMIA agreement, Sen. Gardner expressed concerns about possible damage in the US-Korea alliance, saying, “It could have been decided based on our US-Korea alliance.”

Regarding South Korea’s strategic material control, he said, “I am not sure if Korea responded to Japan’s request about the missing record about 300,000 tons of hydrogen fluoride which can be used for powering nuclear reactor.”
