By Ha Man-joo, India correspondent, AsiaToday - If fourth-generation (4G) communications service rolls out in India, Samsung India is expected to strengthen its leading position in the smartphone market. Experts said that India's tablet market would increase as well.

"4G connectivity has a critical role to play in tablet adoption in India and the speed aspect is going to be a key driver," said Manu Sharma, director, mobile business, Samsung India, at the launch of Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 in Bengaluru on Wednesday. He said, "Smartphone segment has seen about 20 percent adoption rate in India towards 4G while it is lesser for tablets."

In the case of India, 4G has not rolled out yet. India's largest telecommunications operator Airtel has just launched its 4G services pan India. Rival Vodafone and Reliance Jio are planning to enter the market by year-end.

However, the 4G smartphones sales are growing rapidly. According to Cyber Media Research, more than 2.2 million 4G phones were shipped during the January-March quarter of 2015, which is the double than what the previous quarter witnessed. Samsung India expects that sales of its Galaxy smartphones will increase further when 4G rolls out in India.

Previously, Samsung India IT & Mobile Vice President Asim Warsi had an interview with AsiaToday on August 19, and said, "Samsung Electronics has already released more than 15 LTE phones and tablets to the Indian market based on the world's best technology."

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics has launched the Galaxy Tab S2, the world's slimmest tablet, in India for a price of Rs. 39,400 (KRW 70,000). The Galaxy Tab S2 is just 5.6mm thick and weighs only 392g.
