Five boys who are crazy in music have emerged! Jay Hoon, Benji, Gunmin, Gook Min Pyo, Heedo’s group B.I.G stands for Boys in Groove and is ambitious to show various charms though their music.

B.I.G had an interview with AsiaToday. As like other so called ‘Boyfriend Dol,’’Flower Dol,’ B.I.G is a group of

boys who show off individual characters, cuteness, and tender charisma. 

The boys, however, introduced themselves with an unexpected word ‘Patriotic Dol.’ On the 8th, B.I.G made their first debut with the 1st single album ‘Hello,’ introduces Korean dishes and culture with powerful hip hop and greetings in 7 different languages.

“The first time when we listened to the first part of the song, we thought it’s very aggressive and powerful song. We were bit embarrassed but we figured this would be the best song for our debut song. We found it very unique, introducing the Republic of Korea, while other idols are making their debuts with love songs, or swag hip hops.”

Since B.I.G song, ‘Hello’ is about introducing ROK, the boys expressed their wishes that many people in the world get to know more about Korean culture through this song.

It is a good chance to introduce the group B.I.G with the song ‘Hello,’ but we want many people can listen to our songs so that they can have chances to get to know about Korea more. The Asian Game is coming soon so we figure this would be the perfect song for it.”

Members of B.I.G have been trained for at least one to three years for max and they are known for fancy careers as artists- Jay Hoon with street dance, Gunmin with free dancing, Gook Min Pyo and Heedo with charming vocal and rap. Benji, especially is graduated from the Juilliard and is good at playing violoin.    

“Each member has unique characters and strengths. But as a group, we also are well blended. Since every member has different tastes for music and goals, later each one can go as a solo to show various aspects of B.I.G.” 

It takes three years for them to get together and make a debut as a group B.I.G. First time when they met each other, they felt bit awkward but at the same time they were excited to do music together.

“We thought that each one pursuit different goals while we were practicing. We danced differently and act differently. However we became very close to each other quite soon. We took care for each other, became understood each other and one day we realized that we did became a group ‘B.I.G.’

B.I.G picked a girl group ‘Brown Eyed Girls’ as their role model. It was unexpected that they choose a girl group as a role model instead of a boy group who presents fancy synchronized dancing(kalgunmu 칼군무) stealing girls’ hearts.

“Of course we don’t mean that we will act like Brown Eyed Girls (laugh). We think that Brown Eyed Girls’ members are born in talents. Mir is great rapper. Gain performs as a solo, does act and shows off talents. Like them we would like to be a group that shows various talents. “

What color of group that B.I.G who ‘has lots of things to show’ wants to be? They thought for a long time and came with an answer ‘cookie & cream.’ They compared themselves to ice cream and explained why seriously, which made them look innocent.  

 “When you see cookie & cream ice cream, the color black and white is well mixed. We wish that people see us a fresh, sensation, good at hip hop, also good at R&B group. We don’t want to be contained within certain types or format. We’ve got lots of things to show and want to do.”
